From Modern Plights
Never Really There
Always online. Never present.
Scroll through names like I scroll through days
Same little faces in a digital maze
“Seen 2 min ago” but it don’t mean much
We all online but we don’t keep touch
Got group chats full of nothing but noise
Typing “lol” like we still got voice
Voice notes left on read, then ignored
We talk all day but we still feel bored
I know your life through a filtered frame
But I don’t really know if you feel the same
We celebrate birthdays through a screen glow
But I don’t know where the real ones go
Everybody active, everybody seen
But nobody really living in between
I got people in my phone, yeah they always near
But I talk to a screen, they don’t really hear
Typing “how you been?” like it’s all alright
But I ain’t heard a real voice in weeks tonight
We always online but we never really there
So many faces but nobody care
I see you clear through a glowing screen
But I don’t know what your silence means
Yeah we always connected, that’s what they say
But I feel more alone every day
Used to meet up, now it’s just replies
Used to read faces, now it’s just lies
Not even lies like they tryna deceive
Just life in pixels we all believe
We double tap love, then we move on fast
Moments don’t stay, everything don’t last
I got friends I haven’t heard in years
Still know their life through stories and reels
And I’m part of it, I do the same
Posting my life like it’s just a game
But after the post when the screen goes black
It’s just me and silence staring back
No one calling, just vibrations fade
In a room I built but I’m still not saved
I got people in my phone, yeah they always near
But I talk to a screen, they don’t really hear
Typing “how you been?” like it’s all alright
But I ain’t heard a real voice in weeks tonight
We always online but we never really there
So many faces but nobody care
I see you clear through a glowing screen
But I don’t know what your silence means
Yeah we always connected, that’s what they say
But I feel more alone every day
Maybe we changed and we didn’t notice
Lost in the scroll, we stay focused
On everything happening everywhere else
While we slowly disappear ourselves
I miss the weight of a real conversation
No typing, no delay, no translation
Just someone there, fully present and true
Not a profile picture looking at you
And I don’t blame it, it’s just how it is
But it still feels like something is missed
Like we got the world in the palm of our hand
But nobody really understands
We always online but we never really there
So many faces but nobody care
I see you clear through a glowing screen
But I don’t know what your silence means
Yeah we always connected, that’s what they say
But I feel more alone every day
But I feel more alone every day
We always online but we never really there
So many faces but nobody care
I see you clear through a glowing screen
But I don’t know what your silence means
